Seeds Of Opportunity

We’re on a mission to pour into the children in our communities. They are an integral part of my overall life’s mission.

That is why we believe in sharing my personal story continuously. Seeds of Opportunity truly values the milestones we have as a non-profit organization in our community, and we work hard to make sure we help them restore their efforts.

How We Got Started

On a regular trip to visit my homeland in the Island of Jamaica in August 2014, a friend and coworker asked me to do her a favor by giving a book bag with school supplies to a child I felt was in need. On one condition: the child is poor and a non-family member.

As we traveled around the island visiting different parishes, I saw many children but none struck me as the child my friend had in mind; until we decided to take a group trip to the beach. First, we had to make a stop in Seaforth St. Thomas and that's when it happened. We met a little boy as he walked up to our car to ask for money to help him get something to eat. His appearance made me sit up in my seat. It was August and his skin was white from being so dry. I thought he was maybe eight or nine, but he told me he was 11 and going into the fifth grade.

August 2014

We helped Nevin start the 2014 school year off with a uniform, supplies, shoes, haircut etc.

December 2014

I spoke with everyone in my unit at work. The excitement was infectious; my coworkers got involved, donated money, clothes, and food. Through their generosity we collected $220 which was used to pack a barrel of food, and ship it to Jamaica W.I.

August 2015

We provided clothes, and school supplies to start another school year. We also began financing extra lessons needed to help Nevin read and get ready for a great year.

December 2015

We were able to send a small financial gift to help Nevin and his family have a great Christmas.

June 2016

More people got involved and gave their support to the new mission to love and create Seeds of Opportunities in the life of a young boy in Jamaica. Because of their kindness we were able to send Nevin and his family a barrel of clothes and food to last them at least a year.

Nevin McFarland showed significant improvement in his school work and he graduated from Seaforth Primary School and will be attending high school in September. Part of ensuring a successful year in high school is getting Nevin prepared. That includes Summer school, New uniforms, school shoes,a book bag, school supplies and after school lessons.
